The Covid crisis forcibly pushed forward the transformations within the luxury sector that began before the pandemic. For instance, how is the luxury empire responding to its many challenges, such as the new ways of consumption and distribution, the widespread digitalization, the growing importance of sustainable development and the circular economy, the explosive entry of gaming, the irruption of the metaverse and NFTs, among many others? How has this sector been able to bounce back? Has the global supremacy of leading luxury companies been confirmed, or are new players emerging and creating fresh competition?
Highly documented with numerous testimonials from key players in the sector, this book is an immersion into the fascinating world of luxury. Essential for understanding what is at stake in this key sector of the world's economy, it gives an account of the emergence of a "new normal" generating new demands, rules and standards.
Crises are powerful catalysts for change. The experience of the healthcare sector since 2020 is no exception.
The first part of this book looks at the essential role that innovation and digitalisation play in transformation. Digital and communication technologies, such as telemedicine, open many doors, creating patient-focused networks of healthcare
professionals. But these developments raise questions about how healthcare systems are managed and what role institutions play within them.
The second part of the book deals with the business world, where health has become a strategic issue. Business leaders
are having to adapt to a new paradigm. Taking care of their employees' health is no longer enough - they now have to boost their well-being and quality of life at work. There are many factors at play. Managers want effective team performance and stand-out individual skills. Their employees need to forge stronger social connections while often working from home. How can businesses meet their objectives and keep employees healthy, safe and happy?
This book is an impressive, multi-faceted work that sheds light on the issues facing healthcare professionals and institutions in a post-Covid world.
Compliance Law is defined by the Monumental Goals it pursues.
Willingly or by force, companies must structure themselves and act to reach them. In a major and global transformation, they are thereby becoming transparent, making Compliance Tools visible.
Emphasizing the unity of these Tools promotes a unified legal regime, while adapting them country by country, sector by sector, company by company. Understanding these Compliance Tools to anticipate the assessment made by Regulators, Supervisors and Courts, and the provisions of future texts, while companies are invited to invent new ones, is hopefully more appropriate.
General perspectives through which risk maps, compliance programs, deals and judicial agreements, ad hoc training, algorithms, audits, sanctions, controls, whistleblowing, collective actions, etc. are scrutinized. Co-published with the Journal of Regulation & Compliance.

After an introduction tracing the recipient's background, the first part looks at different aspects of cooperation within the European Union, ranging from the European arrest warrant, to the protection of fundamental rights and the role of certain EU institutions or agencies.
The second part deals with cooperation between the EU and the rest of the world, both with global organisations and with specific States, such as the United States. The third, cross-cutting part brings together various contributions relating to the Islamic State, the financing of terrorism, victims and new technologies. The book concludes with a fourth part on prevention, the fight against radicalisation, values, freedom of the press and literature.
The authors come from various parts of the world and present a wide range of profiles, including prominent political figures, EU officials, academics, magistrates and journalists.
The economic take-off of Beijing and other BRIC countries shakes the global economic map. To develop a sustainable economy, they need, as the old industrial countries, raw material that abounds Africa. This book proposes to disentangle the African partner's economic strategies and to penetrate the mysteries of diplomacy and international business relations.
EXPO Milan 2015 is about Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. The United Nations presence at EXPO is anchored in the Zero Hunger Challenge, issued by UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon. This book celebrates EXPO by trying to help people understand how hunger can be ended quickly and how the world can feed itself sustainably.
This book introduces the reader to key legal provisions and case-law related to the procedural and substantive issues that may arise in damages litigation for breach of anti-competitive agreements and abuses of a dominant position prohibitions.
For the past decade, academic publications have focused on the proposal for a Directive on damages actions, then the Directive 2014/104/EU of 26 November 2014 itself, and finally the transposition texts. However, this understandable interest should not lead to overlook the fact that the Directive has been applied very little until now. This is mainly due to its application ratione temporis. In addition to the fact that Member States only transposed the Directive between the end of 2016 and 2018, Article 22 of the Directive provides that the substantive rules contained in the Directive cannot be applied to infringements subsequent to the national laws transposing them, while the procedural rules of the Directive apply to proceedings commenced on or after 26 December 2014. Thus, it is prior domestic law that continues to govern the vast majority of cases before national courts in the "Pre-Directive era." In addition, a number of issues of the utmost importance have not been addressed by the Directive, such as questions of international jurisdiction or the quantification of "interests." For these reasons, it seemed necessary not to limit this book to commenting on the Directive, important as it is, but to go beyond it.
Directed by Rafael Amaro, this book contains the contributions from leading academics, attorneys, jurists and economists in the field of the private enforcement of competition law. It is composed of thematic chapters dealing with matters such as applicable law in international litigation, limitation, quantification of damages, from both a European Union and a national perspective, as well as national chapters presenting the state of play in several European States.

Data include texts, articles, books or documents, numbers in economics or statistics, conversations, interviews, questionnaires, images, and anything we see or observe. We apply our culture and knowledge to approach them so we can understand the world or take action.
This book presents the quantitative and qualitative methods used in the social sciences to produce knowledge by combining theoretical conceptualization with empirical observations - in other words, making data speak in the spirit of the scientific method!
On the basis of numerous examples, it highlights the complementary nature of these methods and gives readers the understanding they need to identify the most appropriate methodology for the particular research question and field. There is an emphasis on online technologies and artificial intelligence, which provide an opportunity to combine quantitative and qualitative approaches and stimulate the development of traditional approaches.
This book is intended both for students who are just discovering these methods and want to learn how to implement them and for experienced researchers and research directors. They will find a wealth of material that will help them polish their research practices and enhance their skillsets.
This book, which is published further to the author's Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) dissertation at the Business Science Institute (BSI) in Luxembourg, concerns the performance of public-private partnerships (PPPs) within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).
The results of the DBA dissertation reveal that PPPs' overall performance is independent of their financial or ownership structure. The major finding of this analysis is the role of endogenous and exogenous factors that may explain performance.
That is why this book aims to highlight the analysis of these factors and their consideration in the construction of an environment that favors the growth of PPPs. The objective is to fuel reflections on the progressive construction of such an environment.
Rooted in fieldwork, this book, which concludes with detailed managerial recommendations, is meant to serve both academics - with its topical presentation of the state of the art in PPPs, mobilizing the contributions of economic and financial theory - and practitioners seeking to gain current knowledge of the field and learn from the experiences of past PPPs.
The results obtained, which shed useful light on PPP construction, give readers an opportunity to personally assess PPP implementation in the UEMOA region in response to the following question: Are PPPs a myth or a reality?
Beyond the topic of PPPs, this work surveys the main problems related to infrastructure implementation in Africa: financing and governance, contractualization and institutional framework, planning and evaluation, and performance.
=========== Yves Poullet has not merely served but excelled in all functions of the University world. Whether as professor, researcher, director of a research centre or as dean and rector, he has left a lasting impression in the minds of generations of students, researchers, colleagues and peers. He is a preeminent expert on the law of Internet and Information and Communications Technologies who, already in 1979, pioneered one of the first European research centres in the field.
This volume is a tribute to Yves Poullet from colleagues, friends, former PhD researchers, offering their reflections on the reciprocal influence of law and technology. These contributions highlight both the range of expertise and the extent of the European and international networks he has nourished. They address the three main research axes Yves Poullet has developed through the years: law, norms and freedoms.
The authors of this volume pay homage to a mentor, a friend, but above all to an exceptional researcher who has sown countless seeds in the field, enabling a luxurious landscape to grow and become a source of inspiration for many scholars. This is the heritage of a genuine thinker, a real academic.
---- European private law results from the continuous interaction between different integration processes. Its expanding scope redraws the shape of many legal boundaries, be they substantive or territorial, and along with these evolutions come mutations in legal regulation. This book considers these phenomena by successively adopting a general/methodological and a specific/disciplinary approach. The degree of Europeanisation varies depending on the legal field involved. To discuss the boundaries of European Private Law leads therefore to discuss the objectives, obstacles and limits to Europeanisation. It also underscores the relativity of the (continental) boundary between public and private law.
Studies of the overall impact of robotics on the economy have shown that investments in its various sectors – industrial, professional and service robotics – are increasing globally and the markets associated with them are valued in billions. Robotization improves the competitiveness of enterprises, while collaborative robotics reinvents methods of production.
Beyond the economic outlook, service robotics, backed by the development of artificial intelligence, raises challenging ethical and social issues.
The legal analysis of robotics is no mean feat because it covers a very diverse technical reality. Companies whose businesses are focused on robotic technologies and applications can be confronted with a complex legal situation resulting from the plurality of the applicable rules which have not necessarily been conceived or adopted bearing in mind their specific constraints.
This situation should not hamper their development. It only implies taking cues from the economic legal norms which promote such developments and conducting an analysis of the legal risks which they face, given the applicable rules of liability.
This comparative study – carried out by members of the Lexing® Network – proposes an overview, having regard to the legislation of 17 different countries, of the legal issues raised by robotics and the way the law in force responds, in a more or less satisfactory manner. Finance and real estate that this book aims to analyse are two significant variables for the economic growth of an emerging economy like China during its four decades' reform and opening-up.
Chapter One will analyze China's restructuring in finance: banking & credit system reforms, WTO-oriented reforms, among others - a thorny issue for Chinese State-owned banks and enterprises.
Chapter Two will focus on China's restructuring in real estate. As a controversial sector in China, real estate is a pillar of growth but faces a risky bubble. In fact, different variables have contributed to the expansion of the Chinese housing market. Finally, policy recommendations will be advanced.
Published in French and English editions, Pervenche Berès has pleased to send to you issue 148 of the Revue d'Économie Financière (REF), which focuses on "After Brexit", and has been coordinated with Sylvie Matherat, former deputy director general of the Banque de France and former member of the executive board of the Deutsche Bank group.
Bringing together 19 authors and 17 articles, including a newly created section entitled "Finance and Literature" and a "Financial History Chronicle", this issue is divided into three chapters:
- Why Did We Get to This Point?
- Brexit State of Play: Almost Two Years After the Breakup, Where Do We Stand?
- What Is To Be Done?
Six years after the referendum that decided Brexit, this issue of the Revue d'Économie Financière proposes to take stock of the extent of developments to date and the various prospects for the future, both from the point of view of the United Kingdom and the European Union.
This period of time seems sufficient, particularly given the neutralization of the Covid years, to take a forward-looking and dispassionate look at the changes to be expected.
After a general article that places this referendum in its historical and political context and proposes an analysis of the underlying reasons for this event, this issue focuses on the following two main themes: the economic, commercial and financial consequences as they are manifested today and the possible developments, particularly from the point of view of the European Union, which must take the initiative again on a certain number of subjects for which the departure of the United Kingdom marks a definite break.
This issue of the REF shows how Brexit, from an economic and financial point of view, has been technically managed in the most efficient way possible. It explains the stakes in defining an optimal cooperation framework while all the conflicting issues on both sides of the Channel have not yet been resolved and each side will take a new look at legislation that until now was identical.
