    Ce livre regroupe les communications proposées lors du 6ème Symposium international sur les pucerons qui s'est tenu à Rennes, France, en septembre 2001. Ce symposium a été organisé par l'équipe d'aphidologistes de l'Inra et de l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Rennes (Ensar). Couvrant la plupart des aspects de la recherche internationale sur les pucerons, l'ouvrage est présenté en 5 chapitres : Biologie et Ecologie - Taxonomie, Systématique et Faunistique - Génétique, Biologie des populations et Ecologie évolutive - Dynamique des populations, Lutte biologique et Gestion intégrée des ravageurs - Interactions plantes-pucerons. Le nombre d'articles et leur diversité reflètent le dynamisme de la communauté des scientifiques travaillant sur les pucerons.

  • Herman Potocnik Noordung's `Inhabitable Wheel'.
    In 1929, an Austro-Hungarian - Slovene called Herman Potocnik published a book under the pseudonym of `Noordung'. The book was Das Problem der Befahrung des Weltraums (The Problem of Space Travel). It was the first book to devote most of its pages to space stations. Noordung proposed the Wohnrad (inhabitable wheel) design. This strongly influenced the work of technicians and researchers, as well as of science fiction authors. It inspired many space station designs during the 1950s, even the one appearing in 2001 - A Space Odyssey.

  • Ce sta bila Ciolkovski in Oberth prva teoretika, je bil Potocnik prvi inzenir vesoljskih tehnologij in hkrati clovek, ki je zasnoval prvo arhitekturo v vesolju.
    Leta 1929, tik pred smrtjo, je napisal knjigo Problem voznje po vesolju - raketni motor, s katero je postavil prvo celovito izhodisce sodobne astronavtike in kozmonavtike. V Noordungovem casu je bilo tovrstno raziskovanje le drzno predvidevanje, ki ga kljub matematicni natancnosti zamisli ni bilo moc preveriti v praksi. Skoraj tri desetletja, preden je prvo telo, ki ga je izdelal clovek, poletelo v vesolje, ter stirideset let pred prvim pristankom na zunajzemeljskem telesu, je Potocnik zasnoval edinstven premik v tehnologiji, ki je se danes zvecine neuresnicen. A njegova nacela se vse bolj in bolj potrjujejo.
    Knjiga, v izvirniku naslovljena Das Problem der Befahrung des Weltraums - der Raketen-Motor, je izsla v Berlinu, v nemscini, tedaj uradovalnem jeziku vecjega dela osrednje Evrope. Ceprav je bil avtor relativno neznan, je bila po spletu nakljucij se istega leta prevedena v anglescino - v stirih stevilkah revije Science Wonder Stories so bili objavljeni vsi njeni najbolj kljucni in revolucionarni deli. Ze leta 1935 so svoj prevod dobili Rusi. Glede na izkusnje druge in tretje generacije raziskovalcev vesolja lahko upraviceno trdimo, da je Potocnikova knjiga vplivala na ameriski, ruski in evropski vesoljski program. Wernher Von Braun, oce poletov na Luno, je doktoriral z mocnimi referencami na Problem voznje po vesolju. Rusi, vkljucno z glavnim inzenirjem Sergejem Koroljovom, so knjigo poznali ze dolgo pred svojimi pionirskimi poleti. Slovenci smo svoj prevod dobili sele leta 1986 pri Slovenski matici. Vse dokler ni bilo Hermanu Potocniku Noordungu postavljeno spominsko sredisce v Vitanju, od koder izvira rod njegove matere, je bilo tudi v Sloveniji zanimanje zanj redkost.
    Zaradi neznanosti ter neumescenosti Potocnikovega imena, ne pa tudi dela, je npr. njegovo odkritje geostacionarne orbite pozneje bolje uporabil Arthur C. Clarke. Ze leta 1945 je v reviji Wireless World objavil svoj prelomni clanek Extra-Terrestrial Relays - Can Rocket Stations Give Worldwide Radio Coverage?, v katerem je na Noordungovo orbito idejno utiril komunikacijske satelite. Na tej orbiti se namrec izenacita Zemljina gravitacija in privlacna sila ostalih nebesnih teles, torej je za delovanje kakrsnega koli mehanizma potrebno kar najmanj energije. Brez taksnih satelitov si danes ne moremo predstavljati sodobnih telekomunikacij ali prenosa podatkov na vecje razdalje.
    Podobne usode je bila delezna Potocnikova vesoljska postaja. Zasnovana je bila kot tridelni geostacionarni satelit, sestavljen iz soncne elektrarne, observatorija in bivalnega kolesa. Ta ideja je se po vec desetletjih razmisljanja o naseljevanju vesolja najbolj revolucionarna. Vrtece se bivalno kolo, krozna konstrukcija, ki s centrifugalno silo vzpostavlja umetno teznost, je najboljsa in obenem preprosta resitev za daljse bivanje cloveka v brezteznosti. Na taksne pogoje namrec nismo prilagojeni in imajo dolgorocno na nase telo negativen vpliv. Postaja pa bi bila lahko na tej orbiti idealno izhodisce za daljse polete v vesolje, saj je najvecja ovira za to se vedno Zemljina privlacna sila.
    Herman Potocnik Noordung je v svoji knjigi razvil se mnogo manjsih in vecjih izumov, preko katerih je cloveku utiral pot za zivljenje v pogojih brezteznosti. Z eticnega zornega kota je celo predvidel zlorabo vesolja za vojaske namene in svaril pred njo. Predvsem pa je kot prvi domislil celovit sistem za clovekovo raziskovanje in poselitev izvenzemeljskega prostora - vse od poleta v vesolje, bivanja v njem in koncno vrnitve na Zemljo.
    Kolikor kratko in neopazeno je bilo Potocnikovo zivljenje, toliko bolj opazen in pomemben je navdih, ki ga vnemajo njegova odkritja. Ta navdih se dotika tako znanstvenikov kot umetnikov. Povzrocil je, da se v Vitanju, v Sloveniji, v Evropi oblikuje prvo kulturno sredisce vesoljskih tehnologij na svetu. Njegova naloga bo pionirska: sistematicno odkrivati pomen kulturnih vzorcev za prihodnje osvajanje vesolja ter - po Potocnikovem vzoru - zdruzevati znanost in umetnost v tisto, kar lahko le slutimo, ne moremo pa se doumeti.

The international aspects of hydrology research are discussed, including the way that the FRIEND research network operates. This document will be of interest to hydrologists and water resource managers, as well as to environmental specialists and scientists in general.
