Larry arrive à Medellín douze ans après la disparition de son père, un mafieux proche de Pablo Escobar. À son arrivée, ce n'est pas sa mère, l'ex-Miss Medellín, qui l'attend, mais Pedro, son ami d'enfance, qui vient le chercher pour le plonger dans l'Alborada, une fête populaire de pétards, de feux d'artifice et d'alcool où tous perdent la tête. Larry retrouve son passé familial et une ville encore marquée par l'époque la plus sombre de l'histoire du pays. Il ne pense qu'à fuir son enfance étrange liée au monde de la drogue.
Mais il cherche aussi une jeune fille en pleurs rencontrée dans l'avion et dont il est tombé amoureux.
Entrecroisant des plans différents, Jorge Franco, étonnant de maîtrise narrative, fait le portrait de la génération des enfants du narcotrafic, qui sont de fait les victimes de leurs pères, et nous interroge sur l'importance de la mémoire pour que l'histoire ne se répète pas.

Une construction impeccable et des personnages ambigus et captivants : un roman qui ne vous laisse aucune trêve et qu'on dévore, fasciné.

Le 9 août 1971, à Medellín, un homme d'affaires, Diego Echevarría, est enlevé. Grand admirateur de la culture allemande, il avait fait construire un pastiche du château de La Rochefoucauld. Il y vivait en écoutant Wagner avec sa femme et sa fille, Isolda, qu'il veut garder à l'abri du monde. L'atmosphère de la demeure est oppressante pour l'adolescente qui trouve dans le parc comment tromper sa solitude. Elle vit dans un monde de fées, de lucioles et d'esprits des bois. La police quadrille la ville à la recherche de Diego, la télévision montre son portrait, les négociations de la rançon piétinent. Mono, l'un des ravisseurs, est obsédé par Isolda depuis l'enfance, il lui raconte les longues heures passées à la guetter, perché dans les arbres, il dit « notre » Isolda. Des menaces invisibles venues du monde extérieur se glissent silencieusement entre les arbres du parc. Inspiré de faits et de personnages réels (l'un des complices du Mono se nommait Pablo Escobar), dans une Medellín qui ne va pas tarder à basculer dans la spirale de la corruption, de la violence et du trafic de drogue, l'auteur construit, avec un remarquable sens de la tension, un conte de fées ténébreux, qui devient la chronique d'un crime et l'histoire d'une obsession amoureuse, celle du kidnappeur pour la fille de son otage. Un roman fantastique entre les frères Grimm et les frères Cohen.

"Since they shot her at point-blank range while she was being kissed, she confused the pain of love with that of death." This book draws on insights that originated from the Circular Economy and Zero Waste initiatives. Together these approaches try to boost the shift from "waste" to "resources" management. The content of this book is partially organized from a stakeholder perspective, revealing the managerial implications for public and private actors. Next to public policies, also illustrations come from the private sector. Petstar, Texperium and Walmart generously shared some of their best practices at in this regard.
